That’s right further product testing, but this time you get to do the tasting. This Friday night (the 2nd of October) you will be able to try the as yet unreleased Boom Marlborough Pinot Gris 2008. I’ll be at The Wine Vault in Grey Lynn from 5PM with the wine and the new labels. Need [...]

All the Labels Together
All the Labels Together

I’ve just attached labels to some bottles of batch 4. Here’s what they look like on the bottle. They look a little different than in a 2D context. I should mention my fabulous label designer Dooda Design who put up with my lack of direction and still turn out these great options.

Maybe a little busy but I like it. The Marlborough bit is a little hard to see but it’s an interesting variation.

Here’s another Boom label version. I think I like the other one more but this is good too… in my opinion anyway.

Auckland Averts Time Warp

Well done, to Auckland Mayor John Banks and councilor Aaron Bhatnagar, for listening to peoples views on the liquor licensing draft policy, and then doing the sensible thing and dropping the draft plan. It takes a bit of spine to pull the plug like this, but it was the right thing to do given the [...]

Auckland in Time Warp – 1960′s Here We Come

Auckland City Council is intent on taking New Zealand’s largest city back to early closings times for bars and restaurants like we had in the 1960′s. Essentially what they are doing with their draft policy is restricting the operating times for bars and licensed restaurants out side of some “entertainment areas” they have conjured up. [...]

Champagne Dom Perignon 1975

One question I get asked a lot is “does Champagne age, how long can I keep it?”. In the case of good vintage Champagne, the answer is as long as you like. Of course that means keeping it in good storage conditions though. A recently opened Dom Perignon 1975 is a perfect example. Far more [...]

Boom Tasting

A bit over a week ago I had the experimental wine I’m working on available for tasting at the Wine Vault in Grey Lynn. The comments I got were really interesting. From my perspective very pleasing, at least from a wine quality perspective it seems to be on the right track. The label I think [...]

The Wine Circle’s New Website

Many people visit this site looking for preservative free and Organic wines. One of the usual places I direct people to try is the the Wine Circle in Kumeu. Unfortunately until now, owner Chris has not had a website that we could link too which makes things a little difficult in the online environment. Chris [...]

Grape Vine Sale

Riversun nurseries are having a spring clearance sale of grape vines with some good prices on most of the 1st’s and 2nd’s as well as potted dormants.  this is a great opportunity to replace the that vine you hit with the mower last summer, or fill that empty row with something experimental. There is a [...]

Wine on Trademe

Trademe has finally started a wine section. It’s really been the missing function of the online auction portal. However the downside is that it is limited to off license retailers that are essentially retailing wine through it. There doesn’t seem to be any limited bargains, old or ultra premium wines. To make it interesting, Trademe [...]
